Apples

By |September 28th, 2013|

What a tasty week we had in Pre-k.  We ate lots of apples in many different forms.  We first tasted red, green, and yellow apples to see which one we liked the best. We made a graph to show us what the results were. We will be making many different graphs and charts this year, it is a skill they will need next year. We learned about the parts of an apple (the core, skin, flesh, seeds, and stems). We talked about Johnny Appleseed and the life cycle of an apple. Ask your child how an apple grows, they will show you a depiction using their entire body. We learned a few different apple songs and finger plays. Your child brought home the finger play we memorized, The Apple Tree, in book form. We practiced reading it together as a class and then individually as well. Encourage your child to “read” this to you. It is a great lesson in reading the book front to back and using picture cues to help with the reading process.

Your children are great with search and find pages!  This is a difficult concept to grasp but once they understood the task they went right to work and had a great time.  They were so excited to find the items they were looking for.  We played many different games to learn the letter Aa this week.  We colored a picture of an angel and learned that angel begins with Aa.  We concluded our Apple and Aa week by making and then eating applesauce.  The children loved to help with this cooking task.  They made yummy applesauce!

Next week we will talk about the changes in Fall and our letter will be […]

Thank you all for  the special birthday wishes that came my way this week.  The children were so happy to surprise me with their cards and to celebrate with treats sent in by room parents.

A thank you to all of you who were able to attend the Reconciliation meeting for your child.  The children will be learning an Act of Contrition over the next few weeks. They will bring home a copyon Monday to be able to practice with your help.  We will also be saying this prayer every morning.  The first chapter activity for the Reconciliation book is due Friday, October 4.

We are very excited about making applesauce on Monday.  The aroma will be permeating the school all day long.  Thanks to our room parents Amy Murrin and Keenan King for getting volunteers to help in person or with supplies for this fun activity.

On Wednesday, we will celebrate the Feast of the Guardian Angels with a special angel song and angel food cake.

Friday is the feast of St. Francis.  Please help your child to remember to bring in a picture or draw a picture of a pet he/she has or would like to have.

The children will not have a spelling list this week as it is a review and reading assessment week.

Enjoy this beautiful weather and GO IRISH!

Hello Parents,

Tuesday October 1st we will have a 2:00 dismissal. Wednesday October 2nd, we will be celebrating Guardian Angel day.

Thank you for the parents who volunteered for our Science Experiments. We enjoyed working with dry ice (not to worry, they did not touch it!), frozen ice and fishing gear. It is fun to see the kids explore new things. we also learned about the water cycle this week and how to pronounce some rather big words! Maybe some of them will grow up to be meteorologists!

The children are enjoying listening to the chapter book “Henry and Ribsy” by Beverley Cleary.

Next week’s story is “Gus Takes The Train”

The spelling words are:

friend

hold

full

many

good

pull

up

bug

mud

nut

hug

tub

Thank you,

Mrs. Miller & Mrs. Riboni
