Project Description

For those who attend the 8:45 a.m. Mass, you have noticed an exodus of children being led out of the church, accompanied by adults.  This is the procession that leads our children to a room downstairs where they hear the same readings as the rest of the congregation for that Sunday, reflect on the readings, sing the Psalm of that Sunday, recite the Creed, and do the Prayers of the Faithful.  We call this the Children’s Liturgy of the Word and it was promulgated in 1973 by the Congregation for Divine Worship.  We follow the principles and guidelines for the adaptation of the liturgy for children so that they may gradually take a more active and conscious part in the full Eucharistic assembly.  It attempts to respect the nature of childhood and the age and abilities of the young.

We are hoping to implement the Children’s Liturgy of the Word at our 10:30 a.m. Mass in addition to the 8:45 a.m. Mass.  We need ministers to help with it, however.  A minister for the Children’s Liturgy of the Word is given a short training, is given the instructions and readings the week that they serve and hopefully, with enough volunteers, serve about one time each month.

If you are interested in becoming part of this ministry, please contact the parish rectory and ask for Teresa.  She will be happy to answer any questions you might have about this ministry.
