Project Description

I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update on the parish survey we conducted in October so that you know what we’re going to do with the feedback you gave us.  Right now we’re still compiling the data into a format that we can use to report out to the parish.  We received almost 600 responses (including over 2200 comments), so there’s quite a lot of data to organize!  I’m hoping to have this done by the beginning of the new year so that I can begin sharing the results with you in January.  We’ll put a full report on the parish web site, and I’ll also report out on it bit by bit in my bulletin columns.

I can give you a quick overview of the responses, though.  We had a total of 592 parishioners respond.  About 85% of the respondents were older than 35, about 2/3 were female, and all but a few were registered parishioners.  Slightly more than half of the respondents had been in the parish for more than 10 years, and the vast majority of those who responded said that they attended Mass at least once a week.  About 1/3 of the respondents currently have children in the school, 1/3 used to have children in the school, and 1/3 have never had children in the school.  I realize that no survey gives perfect data, since the data will reflect the particular groups of parishioners (who did and did not respond).  I also realize that some voices are not represented in this data, but I feel like the responses we received have given us a lot of really useful data to work with, painting a good picture of how people feel about our parish.

Once the data has been fully organized, we’ll use it to do two things.  First, there will probably be some feedback that we’re able to incorporate rather quickly.  Any time we make any improvements based on the feedback you’ve given us, I’ll be sure to point it out in the bulletin.  The bigger use for the data, however, will be in putting together our parish strategic plan throughout the beginning of 2018.  The opinions you expressed in your surveys will help us to assess our strengths and weaknesses in key areas of parish life (Worship & Liturgy; Faith Formation; Evangelization & Outreach; Hospitality & Community).  This will help us set goals for the next 3-5 years to build on our strengths and address our weaknesses.  The Pastoral Council (Mike Coyne, Janis Emmendorfer, Abby Fink, Ravini Fernando, Tim Flanagan, Susie Gasper, Pam Mahlie, Greg Pope and John Wojtowicz) will assist me in translating your opinions into meaningful and achievable goals.  You’ll hear a lot more about this in the spring, but for now just know that these surveys will play an important part in the continuous improvement of our parish.

Many thanks to all of you who took the time to complete this survey.  I know that it was a lengthy survey, but the amount of data we were able to collect was invaluable.  More to come in 2018!
