Project Description

Next weekend is a big weekend here at Christ the King.  We have our Parish Brewfest on Friday the 17th, and then our Parish Picnic on Sunday the 19th.  Like a lot of you, I look forward to this weekend every year.  It’s a great chance to have some fun and socialize with our parish family.

Social events like these are an important part of parish life.  They help us build a sense of community with fellow parishioners.  It’s also healthy to socialize with the people you pray with, and vice versa, so that our faith becomes more integrated into our relationships.  Hopefully this community-building helps all of us to be more connected to the parish, more supportive of one another, and more committed to reaching out to our fellow parishioners.

This year, I also encourage you to use these social events to meet new parishioners and introduce yourself to people you don’t know.  The feedback that we received on our parish survey last fall indicated that for some new parishioners, these social events were places where established parishioners made them feel welcome; for others, if no one reached out to them it felt difficult to “break into” established groups.  Just know that if you strike up a conversation with someone who seems to be off to the side – whether at parish social events or anywhere else – it can go a long way towards making them feel comfortable and welcomed.

The survey indicated that most parishioners feel like we’re a parish that does social events well, and there are a lot of people to thank for that.  A lot of work goes into making this such a great weekend, so a big thank-you to all of the volunteers and pastoral team members who joyfully give so much time and effort into planning and executing these events.  Please know how much your work is appreciated!
