New Life Rose-250x124To all the members of the Church, the people of life and for life, I make this most urgent appeal, that together we may offer this world of ours new signs of hope, and work to ensure that justice and solidarity will increase and that a new culture of human life will be affirmed, for the building of an authentic civilization of truth and love.” (Pope St. John Paul II, The Gospel of Life #6)

Listed below are some of the many ways that our parish and parishioners are involved in supporting life in all of its stages in our area.

Monday Night Rosary: Every Monday evening at 7:30 pm, parishioners gather in the North Chapel to pray the rosary in support of life. Please join us!

Mother’s Day Crib Club: We ask parishioners to donate specific amounts to go towards cribs for the Women’s Care Center. Each donation comes with a Mother’s Day card to give to the woman in whose honor you are making the donation. It’s a great way to assist moms and young women in need who feel alone and unsupported. Last year we raised over $2000 to purchase 16 cribs! Thank you!

Mother’s Day Carnation Sale: Every year before Mother’s Day we sell carnations, the proceeds of which go to support St. Joseph County Right to Life.

October, Respect Life Sunday, Donation and Diaper Drive: Every October for Respect Life Sunday, Christ the King adds little pink envelopes to the pews and asks that a special donation be made to organizations in the area who work specifically with those young women who are considering abortion. These groups are Hannah’s House, Women’s Care Center, and St. Joseph County Right to Life.  In addition to monetary donations, we also hold a Diaper Drive to collect those necessary items for moms and families. The diapers will be donated to Women’s Care Center.

Spiritual Adoption and Baby Shower: Every year our Religious Education program hosts a spiritual adoption. On Respect Life Sunday, the classes begin to pray for their adoptive baby, and they continue praying once a month until April. At the end of April, families bring in baby shower items to donate to the Women’s Care Center to support mothers and children.

Bridge of Hope: We are very excited to bring the Bridge of Hope mentoring program to our parish! Bridge of Hope trains 8-12 individuals to be mentoring friends to a woman and her child/ren who are experiencing homelessness and poverty in South Bend. Bridge of Hope staff have meetings with the woman to help her learn financial planning, budgeting, money management, interviewing skills, etc. The program lasts between 12-24 months, with the goal of safe, affordable housing, steady income, good housekeeping skills and healthy meal planning, etc. The mentoring group at the church assists the family with their presence and loving support. They meet four times a year as a large group, monthly on an individual basis, and speak on the phone weekly, to show support in various forms. Mary Statue Beautification Project: Coming soon! As part of our landscaping efforts this coming year we will be putting together a group to clean and beautify the area around the outdoor statue of the Blessed Mother between the church and school. This can then be dedicated as a place to pray, especially for life issues, for example all mothers who may be having doubts and may be considering ending their pregnancy. Details and dates are TBD.
