Welcome to Mrs. Harmacinski’s First Grade Class!
About the Class:
First grade is one of the most memorable years. It is full of growth, creativity, and discovery. What a privilege it is for Mrs. Kirkman and I to teach children at such a significant and tender age! In first grade we meet each child where they are and take them where they need to be. We understand they learn better on their feet than on their seat. We know they love to sing, cheer, and dance to help them learn. We also acknowledge that our classroom needs to be a joyful place where we take the time to appreciate the special gifts of each child.
The first graders will have daily homework Monday through Thursday. This homework is given to review the skills we have been working on in class, and is also assigned to build responsibility. It should take your child approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete their nightly homework. I do not assign anything on Fridays…at least not for the children. Each Friday parents will have homework in the form of a dialog journal. Look for more details on this weekly interactive project in your childʼs home folder.
If you wish to get in contact with me please feel free to email, leave a voice mail, or simply write a note and place it in your childʼs home folder. There are some days in the classroom where we are so busy I donʼt have the time to check my email more than once. Therefore, if you need to convey an immediate message, voice mail is the best option.
